The facility in Carrowbrowne, Headford Road is only a 5-10 minute drive outside of Galway city centre. Tours are available to individuals or groups (if advance notice of a week is given for groups). A tour of the site will be given showing the entire process of recycling the materials. It is an invaluable and interesting experience for all to see.
The cycle for the collection, processing and shipping of the recyclable material is as follows:
1. Customer segregates recyclables by putting into blue bin/bags or commercial recycling bin/skip/bag 2. Materials are collected by truck and delivered to Barna Waste (Galway) 3. Materials are unloaded in the mixed recyclables section of the waste transfer building 4. Materials are fed into the Ballistic Separating Machine 5. The machine segregates 75% of the material for us 6. Materials are then fed by conveyor into our picking station to complete the segregation process manually 7. Materials end up in bunkers segregated into their own fractions 8. Materials are then taken from bunker and baled into large bales 9. Bales are loaded onto containers and shipped off site for recycling
