  • Q: I want to join Barna Waste’s collection service. How do I join?


  • A: All you have to do is call 1890 300450 and one of our staff will assist you through the simple set-up process.

  • Q: How long will I have to wait to have a bin delivered?


  • A: Delivery time on new household bins is normally within two working days.

  • Q: What size of bins are available?


  • A: For domestic customers we have three bin sizes available as follows:
    • 120ltr bin – this is our smallest bin which has a capacity of 1.5 black bags of refuse. This is an ideal choice for one or two persons living on there own.
    • 240ltr bin – this bin has a capacity of 3 black bags of refuse and this would be an ideal bin choice for small families.
    • 360ltr bin – this bin has a capacity of approximately 5 black bags of refuse and is an ideal bin choice for large families of maybe 6 or more people.

  • Q: How many bins do I receive when I sign up?


  • A: Each customer is supplied with two wheelie bins. A black bin for landfill waste and a blue bin for mixed recycling.

  • Q: What recyclable materials are acceptable?


  • A: • Plastic Bottles - all types (water, soft drinks etc.)
        • Plastic Bags, Plastic Cartons
        • Food Cartons must be completely clean
        • Tetra Packs - (milk/juice cartons)
        • Beverage Cans - all types (soft drinks, alcohol etc.)
        • Food Tins - all must be completely clean
        • Sweets/Biscuit Tins
        • Cardboard
        • Dry Newspapers
        • Normal Paper/Office Paper/Shredded Paper
        • Magazines/Glossy Magazines
        • Junk Mail & All Envelopes
    Please ensure that you WASH/CLEAN/DRIP DRY all items


  • Q: What items are not acceptable in your recycling bin?


  • A: We ask our customers to be careful to ensure only clean/dry recyclables are placed in the recycling bin. The following items should not be put in the recycling bin:
        • Tin Foil
        • Dirty Food Containers
        • Contaminated, soiled or wet paper and cardboard
        • Aeroboard (polystyrene)
        • Glass
        • Nappies
        • Paint/Oil and other hazardous wastes
        • Electrical items
        • Any other item not listed on the approved items list
    Customers unsure about any items should contact our office on 1890 300450 to enquire about a specific item type.

  • Q: How often will my bin be collected?


  • A: Your bins are collected on an alternate week basis therefore landfill bin one week and the recycling bin the following week and that sequence continues throughout the year.

  • Q: When should I leave my bin out for collection?


  • A: Our fleet of trucks and collection staff start work very early in the morning in order to make landfill deadlines and therefore we ask all our customers to leave their bins out the night before collection day.

  • Q: If my collection day falls on a Bank Holiday is my bin still collected that week?


  • A: Yes, collection that falls on a Bank Holiday then that collection will take place on the Saturday prior to the Bank Holiday. This is with the exception of Christmas time when customers will be notified of the collection schedule changes in advance via a flyer on their bin.

  • Q: What payment options are available to me once I sign up?


  • A: Customers can pay by cheque, bank draft, money order, credit card, laser card, direct debit and bill pay.

  • Q: If I do not generate enough refuse to justify signing up for the Barna Waste bin service do I have an alternative choice of service?


  • A: Yes, Barna Waste also supply pre-paid refuse and recycling bags to shops to sell onto our customers. Please contact our office on 1890 300450 for a list of shops selling bags in your area.

  • Q: For what reasons would your bin not be collected?


  • A: Your bins may be left behind without empty for the following reasons     - The payment sticker on display has expired and is out of date
        - The bin / bag may contain the incorrect contents (ie. non recyclable items in the recycling bin / bag)
        - The bag may be to heavy (ie. exceeds the 12kg weight limit for lifting)


  • Q: If I lose my bin stickers what can I do?


  • A: Contact our office on the Lo Call number on 1890 300450 and one of our staff will discuss replacements with you

  • Q: If I move house what do I do with my bin?


  • A: If Barna Waste services the area you are moving to you may bring the bin with you. Just inform our office and your account will be updated. If you are moving to area we do not service please let the bin behind and we will collect it.

  • Q: If I have extra refuse what can I do with it?


  • A: Extra refuse should be placed in one of our pre-paid bags and left beside your bin. We will not take extra black bags of waste left outside of your bin. Only Barna Waste pre-paid bags will be taken.

  • Q: I am having a house clearance and I need a skip. How do I order?


  • A: Contact the Galway Office on 091-771619 and one of our staff will assist you. A discount of 5% is available on a normal skip price to our domestic customers whose account is paid up to date.

  • Q: If my bin is stolen or damaged what should I do?


  • A: In your bin is accidentally damaged please contact our office and we will discuss a replacement with you. However if the bin is damaged maliciously please report it to the Gardai and contact us in writing.

  • Q: Where does the waste go that I put in my landfill bin?


  • A: Barna Waste operate an EPA licenced transfer station and general waste is either delivered here prior to transfer to a licenced landfill or delivered directly to a licenced landfill depending on the customers location.

  • Q: Where does the waste go that I put in my recycling bin?


  • A: The contents of the recycling bin are sorted, segregated and baled for export to recycling facilities. The EPA give approval for all end destinations used by Barna Waste in advance of them receiving any material. See How We Recycle section for more information.

  • Q: What can't I put in the Skip?


  • A: Below is a list of items that cannot be put in a skip
        - Fridges/Freezers
        - Tyres
        - Paint Cans
        - TV’s/Monitors
        - Asbestos
        - Clinical/Medical Waste
        - Florescent Tubes
        - Solvents
        - Liquids
        - Oil
        - Batteries
        - Plasterboard (max 10% of load)
        - Hazardous/Toxic Material

  • Q: What does the price of hiring a skip include?


  • A: The price from Barna Waste includes delivery, collection, disposal and hire for up to 7 days

  • Q: How quickly can a skip be delivered?


  • A: On occasion be available but the normal delivery period is 24 hours.
